The authors, having defined the religious experience  in scientific terms, predicted, stimulated and observed such experiences in the laboratory, with implications for resolving a broad range of psychological and social disorders. Spiritual experience addressing and relieving the fear of death produces measurable improvements in the quality of life, whereas,  “Unbridled anxiety results in difficulties with adaptation and can significantly reduce the patient’s capacity to achieve the universal goals… to live relatively free of distress, …to love and to be productive, and… to develop the person’s own unique potential.”
